Scenario
It's
6:30 pm and life at the Johnson household is crazy.
Elaine Johnson, a partner at a law firm, is in the
kitchen preparing dinner while talking to a client on
their cordless phone. Bill Johnson, the VP of Marketing
for a computer manufacturer, is waiving a note to his
wife that he is expecting an important incoming phone
call. Their children, Bobby and Sarah, are arguing over
who gets to use the phone next. Sarah complains that her
friends can't get through to her because her parents are
on the phone or Bobby is always on the
Internet.
After hanging up with her client and
contemplating the situation, Elaine wearily tells her
husband, "maybe it's time we installed an additional
telephone line, and went shopping for some new telephone
equipment for our home.”
Later that evening, Bill
and Elaine began surfing the Internet for a solution.
Since neither of them are extremely technical, they
quickly decide the easier the better. They didn't want
solutions involving new wiring, complicated equipment or
